Giving advice and information to people with problems is of course our main role. But if that was all Citizens Advice did, as a national organisation, we’d only be doing half a job.
It is our research, in offices all over the UK, which is fed up to the national office to help with campaigns to change systems and laws that are unfair and damaging. You might notice, in news reports, how often Citizens Advice is quoted, often referring to a new report the national campaign team has published.
Every local office is involved in this work, both locally and nationally. If it’s a very specific local issue, we can raise it with councils and other bodies – like the ‘Rent in Advance’ we took up last year. If it fits into a pattern Citizens Advice offices are seeing all over the country, our data is used by central Citizens Advice to help campaign for change.
